Gift Certificate Frequently Asked Questions

How and why did this Community Gift Certificate Program originate?
This opportunity was created through a strong partnership between the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), the Coral Ridge Mall and the communities of Iowa City & Coralville. The CVB and Coral Ridge Mall recognized the opportunity to give visitor and local shoppers an expanded service while generating an increased awareness of local offerings. The Community Gift Certificate program would not have come to fruition without the vision, knowledge, and community dedication of the sponsors: << back to top

Can the Community Gift Certificate be returned for cash at one of the points of purchase?
No, it cannot be returned for cash. If the amount of your purchase is less than the amount of your gift certificate, then you will be given cash back as change. Please be aware that if there is a large difference between the amount of your purchase and the amount of your gift certificate, some stores might be unable to give change since they may keep only a limited amount of cash on hand. Also, no returns are allowed on certificates that are purchased.

Are businesses able to issue a Community Gift Certificate as change for a transaction?
No, since the stores themselves do not issue the gift certificates, they would be unable to issue one as change.

Any certificates older than that will have the Iowa State Bank & Trust logo on them. All gift certificates will expire on September 1, 2012.
