How and why did this Community Gift Certificate Program originate?
This opportunity was created through a strong partnership between the Iowa City/Coralville Convention & Visitors Bureau (ICCCVB), the Coral Ridge Mall and the communities of Iowa City & Coralville. The ICCCVB and Coral Ridge Mall recognized the opportunity to give visitor and local shoppers an expanded service while generating an increased awareness of local offerings. The Community Gift Certificate program would not have come to fruition without the vision, knowledge, and community dedication of the sponsors:

Will there still be a service charge? Why do you add a service charge?
Yes, a service charge based on the number of gift certificates bought is applied to your purchase according to the following scale:
- Purchase 1-4 gift certificates = $1.00 service charge
- Purchase 5-10 gift certificates = $2.00 service charge
- Purchase 11-20 gift certificates = $3.00 service charge
- Purchase 21-50 gift certificates = $4.00 service charge
- Purchase 51 or more gift certificates = $5.00 service charge
The service charge that is added covers our operational costs for the program since we do not net a profit from the actual gift certificate sales.

Can you purchase gift certificates by phone or online?
Yes! Purchases made by phone or online are with MasterCard or Visa only. There is a $5.00 fee added to your order for shipping and handling. This fee is in addition to the service charge that is added to any gift certificate purchase.

What forms of payment are accepted for purchasing gift certificates?
MasterCard, Visa, or cash. Checks are not accepted. Businesses purchasing certificates may use a corporate check. Purchase orders are not accepted.

Why do you no longer accept payment on a Discover card for a gift certificate?
Under the previous Coral Ridge Mall gift certificate program, their account was set up to accept Discover card payments. Unfortunately, we are unable to duplicate that arrangement.

What denominations can the gift certificate be bought in?
Gift certificates can be purchased for a minimum denomination of $5.00 and a maximum of $100.00 and for any whole dollar amount in between. For example, if the purchase was for $150.00 the purchaser would be issued one $100.00 certificate along with one $50.00 certificate.

How do I arrange to purchase a large quantity of gift certificates?
If the purchase is for 15 certificates or more, please call ahead to the location where you are going to purchase them. Our staff will need some time to get your order ready. Gift certificate orders must be picked up and paid for the SAME day that they are ordered!

Do the Community Gift Certificates have an expiration date?
No, the Community Gift Certificates do not have an expiration date.

Can the Community Gift Certificate be returned for cash at one of the points of purchase?
No, it cannot be returned for cash. If the amount of your purchase is less than the amount of your gift certificate, then you will be given cash back as change. Please be aware that if there is a large difference between the amount of your purchase and the amount of your gift certificate, some stores might be unable to give change since they may keep only a limited amount of cash on hand. Also, no returns are allowed on certificates that are purchased. For example, if you purchase 4 $25.00 certificates and later decide you only need 3, you cannot return the extra certificate. However, if you purchase 2 $50.00 certificates and later decide you would like 4 $25 certificates instead, then we are able to accommodate your request by taking the certificates you currently have to purchase of the lower denomination certificates.

Are businesses able to issue a Community Gift Certificate as change for a transaction?
No, since the stores themselves do not issue the gift certificates, they would be unable to issue one as change.

What do I do if I have difficulty redeeming my Community Gift Certificate?
You should not have any problems redeeming your gift certificate at a participating business (see question number 2). However, if you do, please call the Iowa City/Coralville Convention & Visitors Bureau at (319)337-6592 or (800)283-6592 at your earliest convenience and the office manager will assist you with any questions or concerns.

Do the malls/retailers still offer their own gift certificates?
Coral Ridge Mall and Old Capitol Town Center have discontinued their gift certificate programs. Sycamore Mall currently has its own gift certificate program but may discontinue it in the future. All other retailers may still have their own programs in place. It is up to the individual businesses whether or not to continue their own programs.

Yes, your certificate will still be accepted at the appropriate mall it was purchased from.

Can my Community Gift Certificate be replaced if I lose it?
Unfortunately, we are not able to replace lost gift certificates.

If my Community Gift Certificate still has the Iowa State Bank & Trust logo on it, is it still good?
Yes, your gift certificate is still good. After the merger of Iowa State Bank & Trust and MidWestOne Bank in August 2008, any gift certificates printed after that date will have the MidWestOne Bank logo on them. Any certificates older than that will have the Iowa State Bank & Trust logo on them. Since Community Gift Certificates don't expire, certificates with either logo will always be accepted.
